Simon Jordan makes Birmingham City manager admission and aims dig at Knighthead

Simon Jordan believes “there’ll be plenty of takers” for the Birmingham City manager position, but he also advised the club to focus on securing points rather than seeking praise next season.

Birmingham City is searching for its fourth manager under Knighthead’s ownership after Tony Mowbray stepped down to prioritize his health. Mowbray, 60, initially took a leave of absence in February to undergo treatment for an unspecified illness.

His absence proved to be a significant blow, culminating in the club’s relegation from the Championship. The new manager’s primary task will be to secure promotion from League One at the first attempt.

Knighthead, the American investment firm that owns the club, aims to lead Birmingham City to the Premier League and has plans to develop a Sports Quarter in Birmingham. However, their football decisions last season, including replacing John Eustace with Wayne Rooney, contributed to the club’s relegation.

Jordan, the former owner of Crystal Palace, remarked, “It doesn’t matter what you do off the field. You can focus on off-the-field activities for a while, but if you get your club relegated from the Championship to League One, you are accountable for it.”
