Former Birmingham City player Dele Adebola has partnered with West Midlands Police to address knife crime in the Bromford area. On May 17, Adebola joined officers from the Hodge Hill neighbourhood team and community leaders in a weapons sweep, aiming to reduce the opportunity for offending by searching open spaces and parks for hidden weapons.

During the sweep, a knife and a hammer were recovered, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in making the community safer. Adebola, who joined Birmingham City FC in 1998 for £1 million under Trevor Francis, used his influence and local presence to support this critical community safety effort.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police emphasized the effectiveness of these sweeps in deterring crime, stating that removing weapons from public areas significantly lowers the chances of their use in criminal activities. This collaboration between a former professional athlete and law enforcement demonstrates a proactive approach to tackling knife crime in Birmingham.
