Marc Roberts’ wife has hinted that the defender’s seven-year contract with Birmingham City may be ending soon. Roberts is one of eight senior players out of contract at Blues following their relegation to League One.

Blues have the option to extend Roberts’ contract for another year, but must notify him by the third Saturday of May (May 18). According to what Roberts’ wife, Charlotte, posted on Instagram on Tuesday, the centre back could be on the move this summer.

“Forever proud of you,” she wrote. “A seven-year odyssey that I could not have completed without you. I’m proud of us for moving away as a newly engaged couple with our kid and returning home to start her in elementary school.

“It’s been an adventure, and we’ve met some amazing people along the way. To the future, and wherever it takes us all.”

The vast majority of Blues fans, as well as those from Roberts’ former club Barnsley, assumed Charlotte’s tweet meant the end of his time at St Andrews. She then clarified, “P.S. This is not an announcement.”

Last season, Roberts was limited to only 16 appearances due to a series of calf ailments. Roberts has played 197 games for Blues after signing in 2017 as part of Harry Redknapp’s infamous summer spending spree.
