Leeds United’s position is explained, and Birmingham City is on transfer alert as a target available for free.

Current transfer rumours surrounding Birmingham City: a January target becomes available for free in the summer

Birmingham City may have a chance to sign a player who eluded them during the January transfer window.

Ian Poveda was’very close’ to joining the Blues, according to Tony Mowbray, but on Wednesday he went to Sheffield. The 24-year-old and Mowbray collaborated at Blackburn Rovers, and plans for a reunion at St Andrew’s were floated. However, Mowbray is currently Birmingham’s relegation adversary.

Poveda’s contract with Leeds United is reportedly not going to be renewed, according to a Football Insider report. He has reportedly played his final game for the Whites and will be moving on a free transfer from Elland Road.
Since joining Sheffield Wednesday on February 1, Poveda has made seven appearances. He has only assisted on one goal thus far, which he scored against Birmingham last month. Due to the conditions of his loan deal, he was unable to play against his parent club, which is why he was absent over the weekend.

The winger started with Manchester City before joining Leeds in 2019 and has since made 80 professional football club appearances. In addition to his 14 Premier League appearances with the Whites, he was also on loan at Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers.

Birmingham may consider signing Poveda if it is learned that he could be available for free in the summer. Preserving their Championship status, however, is the first thing they need to achieve if they are to have any chance of recruiting him.

Middlesbrough defeated Birmingham 1-0, with Riley McGree, a former loanee, scoring the game’s lone goal. Blues had the game in hand over their relegation rivals and are currently only one point ahead of Huddersfield Town.
Birmingham, who have lost all of their games under interim manager Mark Venus, will next play Watford, who fired Valerien Ismael on Sunday. Tom Cleverley, a former midfielder for Everton and Manchester United, took over as the Hornets’ new manager after the former West Brom manager was fired after just one win in ten games.
