Wayne Rooney gave Jordan James a new role at Birmingham City, and he is doing well there.

The Welshman, who scored twice in Monday night’s 3-2 loss to Leicester City, is now bringing his international star status to the club level.James gave Blues hope for a comeback against the Championship leaders with two goals each side of halftime.

James played a deep midfield role in the first few games of Rooney’s stay, but he has excelled when moving forward in the last two games for the Blues. The 19-year-old might eventually move back up to “number six,” but Rooney thinks he would be more effective in a more senior role.

The Blues manager disclosed, “I spoke with him about it a few weeks ago.” “He’s a really excellent player who can play as a six, like he does for Wales, but observing him in training and seeing his ability to finish well and make the box, I think he’s a number eight. As demonstrated by his performance in the past two games, he has excelled from that point forward.

He will occasionally play like an eight and occasionally like a six. He have that talent. I am happy with the performances he has given.
