Why Birmingham City owners are hesitant about appointing Jesse Marsch

Football Insider reports that Tom Wagner and Tom Brady, the owners of Birmingham City, are reluctant to name Jesse Marsch as their next manager because they fear criticism from the team’s supporters.

The board made the bold choice to replace John Eustace with the former England star, but Blues supporters are already miffed over how Wayne Rooney’s tenure at St Andrew’s flopped.

The Midlands club had won back-to-back games and was in the play-offs at the time of Eustace’s dismissal.

However, they are currently in 20th position and could be forced into a relegation battle if they can’t rapidly turn things around.

Steve Spooner has taken the helm for the time being, but even though Spooner is a fine coach, the management would be eager to hire someone fairly quickly to offer certainty and possibly increase their chances of staying up.

Although Rooney was fired early this week, it appears that Blues is already nearing the end of the management hiring process, as they have apparently down their selection to only three applicants.

Marsch, Paul Heckingbottom, and Tony Mowbray are these people.

Wayne Rooney and John Eustace outrage was forewarned against by Birmingham City owners.

Earlier this week, Wayne Rooney’s tenure at Birmingham City ended.

Following Alex Neil’s departure from Sunderland last year, Mowbray took over and managed the team admirably. However, when his tenure came to an end, the Black Cats’ board opted to terminate him, a move that was not well received.

Not that long ago, Heckingbottom managed a different team that was having trouble in the Premier League this year but had led Sheffield United to promotion at the end of the previous campaign.

It appears that the American owners are thinking about hiring an American.

Marsch’s resume is respectable, but he didn’t accomplish much at Leeds United, and it’s possible that he contributed to the West Yorkshire team’s Premier League relegation the previous season.

He did, however, contribute to the club’s temporary stabilization following Marcelo Bielsa’s exit.

The owners of Blues are probably concerned that this appointment might not be the most well-liked one in light of this somewhat lackluster stint at Elland Road.

Additionally, supporters will not want to deal with the same ire that they previously felt toward the board for their previous managerial choice.

At this time, Marsch might be a wise choice, but he seems risky.

Hiring a person that supporters can support will be essential.

The unfavorable reaction Rooney received following his debut at home against Hull City served as further evidence of that.

Given his background and the response he has received on social media, it would be great to hire Tony Mowbray. Fans would gladly embrace his hiring.

Mowbray, who was brutally fired by his former team, would have something to prove, which would only help the Midlands team.
