Birmingham City’s manager Tony Mowbray will stand down permanently after a medical leave.
Birmingham City have faced a lot of speculation about their management position in the months after Mowbray’s forced leave. He has been recovering from unexpected surgery and has now decided to step down permanently, allowing him to spend more time with his family once he has fully recovered.
It means the Blues need a new boss, and the sooner an appointment is made, the better.
Following their relegation, the team is destined for League One and requires a new manager to guide them back to the Championship.
Birmingham City should target the following three available managers:
Liam Rosenior
Rosenior has been connected to the empty role at Birmingham City, and with Mowbray stepping down, expect the Blues to ramp up their pursuit of the controversially fired manager.
He left Hull City at the end of the season as they fell short of the play-offs. Tigers fans were dismayed by the move, as were bystanders outside the club.
It would be a bold move, but with City aiming a bright future, bringing him in would make a statement.
Alex Neil
Neil was already tempted down to League One by a great team in Sunderland. As he strives for success in his next post, perhaps a dip to the third-tier once more would appeal to him.
Birmingham City’s ambitious ambitions for the future may attract a Championship-caliber manager, therefore it’s important to set high goals as Mowbray departs.
Neil has several promotions to his name and may easily add more with a move to St. Andrew’s.
Scott Parker
Last but not least, Scott Parker could benefit from a move to Birmingham City.
While he has previously coached in the Premier League and Belgian top flight, some remain skeptical of his managerial ability, citing his most recent victories at Fulham and Bournemouth, which came with significant financial backing.
He’d have a lot of money behind him at the Blues, but the opportunity to take them up from League One and then into a new chapter in the Championship may be great for him. Following his troubles with Club Brugge in Belgium, a drop down a level or two could be useful.
