Steelers Designate Landing Area McCarthy, J.J.

The Steelers are the third-best match among the top five landing locations for a first-round quarterback, behind only the Los Angeles Rams and Atlanta Falcons, according to CBS Sports.

Steelers Tabbed as Fit for Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy

“With Arthur Smith joining Pittsburgh as offensive coordinator, I believe McCarthy would work well there.

While some see Smith as an offensive coordinator who failed to maximize the potential of his best players while in Atlanta, we do know that Smith is capable of assembling a strong rushing attack.

The running game of the Atlanta Falcons finished third in 2022 and eighth the previous season. Smith led the Tennessee Titans’ rushing offense to league rankings of No. 2 in 2020 and No. 3 in 2019, according to CBS Sports, while serving as offensive coordinator.

McCarthy going to the Steelers at No. 20 seems unlikely, but if he did, it would be intriguing to watch if they made a play to choose another quarterback in the first round.

With Pittsburgh being linked to multiple deals and moving up in the first round, there are a lot of moving parts involved when it comes to when they actually choose on Draft Night. McCarthy, who weighed little under 200 pounds in college, bulked up to 219 pounds.

Despite not having a meeting with the Steelers during the NFL Combine, he has been mentioned as a potential fit for them multiple times. Pittsburgh usually makes it to Michigan’s Pro Day, where they’ll probably talk to McCarthy about this possible fit.
