The NFL offseason world was rocked somewhat on Monday, as Mr. PFT himself, Mike Florio, revealed in a report that appeared on ProFootballTalk.com.

Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings was reportedly already quietly organizing his family’s transfer to Atlanta, according to Florio, who cited “very credible indications.” This suggests that Cousins was getting ready to sign a deal with the Falcons when free agency opened the following week. Naturally, Florio was quite deliberate in his word choice.

There are a number of pretty reliable signs that Kirk Cousins is preparing to relocate his family from Minnesota to Atlanta.

For now, we are unable to discuss the specifics. However, there are extremely reliable signs that Cousins is thinking seriously about relocating his family.

However, after speaking with one of his own reliable sources, local scoop master Darren “Doogie” Wolfson (KSTP, SKOR North) blasted down Florio’s allegation on Tuesday morning. Unprompted, Wolfson began his interview on “Mackey and Judd” on SKOR North today with a story that more subtly (though still quite strongly) rebutted the recent reports that have been making the rounds regarding Kirk, the Vikings, and his Falcons connections.

Stated differently, Doogie presented a far more optimistic picture of the circumstances, as someone who hopes Cousins makes a comeback. that Kirk might still wear purple in the upcoming season (01:25 mark; transcript below).

When I join you guys on Tuesday, March 12, we might already know at this point next week, so I believe we’ll have a fair bit of clarity. However, there is enough uncertainty for the next week because it is a known fact that the Vikings are interested in having the Kirk cousins quit.

It isn’t as easy as saying, “We know Kirk is going to land somewhere else, probably Atlanta [so we’ve given up],” even though the Vikings do have legitimate interest. Thus, if this is possible, it will be interesting to observe whether Kirk decides to re-sign with the Vikings.”

Wolfson: Kirk Cousins’ camp planting seeds with Mike Florio

Kirk Cousins Minnesota VikingsWolfson then takes a more direct shot at the PFT report from yesterday, claiming that he checked with his own extremely trustworthy sources, Kirk Cousins, after Florio’s Monday post, and those sources strongly refuted it, though they did mention that they might have spoken with a realtor in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, who suggested that leaving is a possibility.

“I will admit that I did speak with someone who is really familiar with Kirk on that Florio claim. That was shot down by him. However, that does not imply that Kirk will not sign with the Vikings again or move to Atlanta. I promise you that Kirk arriving in Atlanta might very well be the final scenario.

However, Florio used the exact same words, and it seemed like this individual shot it down. The closest I believe Kirk got to sowing the seeds of a possible move from Minnesota was having a chat with a realtor or the family about maybe listing the Inver Grove Heights house for sale. However, I don’t feel like there’s been a lot of internal planning going on in Atlanta, as if Cousins’ preparation to move his family is set in stone and that all the necessary infrastructure has already been established there.

Then, Doogie and the other hosts of the Macky & Judd Show on SKOR North start making fun of the notion that a wealthy family like the Cousins would need to arrange a potential move to Atlanta weeks in advance before such a momentous decision is even close to being made.

They are also correct. There’s no reason a family with hundreds of millions of wealth would start contacting moving companies or attempting to schedule property showings in Atlanta already, assuming that Kirk’s children would complete their education in Minnesota.

In a pretty matter-of-fact manner, Mackey, Judd, and Wolfson feel that the information PFT is receiving is nothing more than a plot by Kirk Cousins’ camp to create a scene with the Vikings. Even if the “indications” were “credible,” the episode poses some very intriguing concerns about how Florio obtained the knowledge he believed to be his yesterday.

Judd: Well, let’s go over that since it’s obvious that the Cousins were the ones that planted this. You are correct in saying that a millionaire would not respond, “Well, we got a lot of work to do to move.” We really need to load up the U-Haul.

Mackey You must obtain a quote [for movers], correct?

Judd: “Yeah, you have to get your security deposit back if they rent? Julie, get to work cleaning!”

“What if they charge us $500 for a deep clean?” Mackey said.

Judd: “So, the plant comes from the side of the Cousins, and I believe that was one of [Kirk’s] last attempts to convey to the Vikings that “we’re serious… even if you don’t believe us, we’re serious.” Additionally, there are spies working for me who inform me that two people, or at least one person in close contact with Kirk, may have discussed planting plans to move. This person was likely told, “Hey, you might wanna give Florio a call and let him know we’re thinking about moving.”

Back in the PFT studios, in the meantime… Mike Florio is increasing his steam by two, three, heck, even more, and he is no longer concealing the source of his information. A longtime opponent of Kirk Cousins has reversed course, and it appears that the two spouses are now conversing over the phone and finding one other to be rather fascinating.
