According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the New York Jets have reportedly inked a one-year contract with former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Isaiah Oliver.
This move aims to strengthen the Jets’ depth at nickel corner and potentially enhance their defense on the right side. Oliver, aged 27, contributed to the 49ers’ 12-5 record in the 2023 regular season, amassing 67 total tackles, two tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, two passes defensed, and one interception.
Throughout the Niners’ journey to Super Bowl LVIII, Oliver predominantly played on special teams, logging 35 snaps across three games. Selected by the Atlanta Falcons as the 58th overall pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft from Colorado, Oliver swiftly established himself as a dependable defender, earning All-Pac 12 First-Team honors in 2017.
Despite a knee injury limiting his appearances to just four games in 2021, he managed to participate in 62 games (with 38 starts) during his five-year tenure with the Falcons, accumulating 203 total tackles, 34 passes defensed, three forced fumbles (recovering one), and two interceptions. Although Oliver had signed a two-year deal with San Francisco last season, the team released him last month, freeing up $2.4 million in cap space. Oliver now embarks on his seventh season in the NFL, transitioning to his third team as he joins the New York Jets.
