Scottish FA issues a “serious error” apology to Hibs about VAR.

Today, Hibernian officials were apologised to following a “serious error” in VAR procedure during the Aberdeen match.

When a cross from Jordan Obita struck Nick Devlin’s arm in the 2-2 draw at Pittdorie, Easter Road officials felt that a crucial call had gone unnoticed.

The incident was dismissed during the game, and referee David Munro was not given the go-ahead to examine the ruling on the pitchside monitor.

To contest the ruling, club representatives met with the Scottish FA on Monday at Hampden.

The Referee Department acknowledged that the incident should have been referred for an on-field review, and the club was offered an apology for making the incorrect decision.

Following another apologies for VAR failures, a Hibs statement confirmed the club would carry on working with the Scottish FA addressing officiating.

“Hibernian FC met with Scottish FA representatives following the club’s decisive Premiership match away at Aberdeen (17 February, 2024),” according to a statement from the club.

“After reviewing the match, the club feels that when Jordan Obita’s cross struck Aberdeen defender Nicky Devlin’s arm in the first half, VAR committed a major error.

“The referee was informed that the on-field decision was valid, meaning no penalty was given, after the situation was examined by VAR.

“To contest the ruling, the club met with the Scottish FA at Hampden earlier today, February 19. The governing body stated that an error was committed and that the Referee Department concurred that the situation ought to have been reported by VAR for On-Field Review.

“This is not the first occasion where the cllub has received an apology for VAR errors, and the club will continue to work with the Scottish FA regarding officiating in the Scottish game.”
