Blackburn Rovers suffer huge setback as deadline looms

According to Fabricio Romano, Blackburn Rovers have been dealt a severe setback after discovering that their agreement to sign Orlando City forward Duncan McGuire has fallen through.

The Lancashire-based team was declared the winner of the competition to sign the USA international for a reported sum of £2.3 million yesterday. After seven games without a victory, the struggling team has fallen to 18th place in the Championship. Manager Jon Dahl Tomasson had been eager to add an attacker to help out.

The 22-year-old, who scored 13 goals in 29 MLS games for Orlando last season, seemed to be the solution to their issues.

Rovers also found out yesterday that Tyrhys Dolan, an attacker who recently recovered from a November knee injury, was a target for Luton Town in a late move.

Regarding McGuire, Romano reports that relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday has started talks with the USA international, suggesting that a move to the Championship is still on the cards. The Owls want to increase their offensive options before the transfer season ends and were connected to the player earlier in the window.

League One title-chasers Derby County are willing to take at least one of Michael Smith and Lee Gregory off their hands, thus Wednesday is ready to approve their departures. With just 22 goals in 29 games, Danny Rohl’s club has the fewest goals in the division and knows they must score more goals if they want to stay in the top flight.

The South Yorkshire team’s matchup with another struggling team Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday is a relegation six-pointer. Before making the quick trek across the county, the manager will be hoping to call upon a player with McGuire’s caliber.

Author’s Perspective

This is a setback for Blackburn, who must bounce back from their recent bad play to avoid getting into a dog fight for relegation. The 1995 Premier League winners are thought to have backed out of the agreement, suggesting that they might have been more worried about losing a player like Tyrhys Dolan.

Nevertheless, Sheffield Wednesday wins and Blackburn loses, and Danny Rohl will be happy if he can close this deal. McGuire is a player who has the ability to make all the difference. Might his objectives aid in driving the Owls to safety?
