deadline day highlights for Preston North End: Serie A interest in Alan Browne is denied, and the former partnership may depart

Salernitana made a bid for Alan Browne to PNE on Wednesday.

Preston North End transfer answer for Alan Browne already given

Preston North End’s transfer deadline day is probably going to be quiet, with the team’s main priority being getting ready for Saturday’s game against Ipswich Town.

On the eve of deadline day, however, there was some shocking transfer rumors to process, centered around the PNE skipper. Some former Preston players have already moved on, and others might still do so. Here are the headlines for your morning on the last day of the transfer window.

Salernitana interest knocked back

PNE rejected an approach from U.S. Salernitana 1919 for Alan Browne, on Wednesday. Sky Sport journalist Gianluca Di Marzio broke the Serie A side’s interest. Browne is in the final six months of his contract and made his 400th appearance for the club last weekend. He has been offered a new deal at Deepdale and the hope remains that North End’s number eight will sign fresh terms.

Salernitana, who are bottom of Serie A, made contact with Preston in the afternoon. A formal offer was not made, though a figure way below PNE’s valuation – even taking into consideration Browne’s contract situation – was mentioned. North End informed the Irishman of their response and he is understood to be fine with the club’s position.

‘European enquiries’ for PNE skipper

On Wednesday night, Dharmesh Sheth, a reporter for Sky Sports, revealed that Browne had been the “object of multiple inquiries from European clubs, regarding a summer transfer.” If footballers in England are about to enter the last six months of their contracts, overseas teams may be able to negotiate pre-contracts with them. An Italian team was even alleged to have had two offers rejected.

Men from PNE related to exits

Josh Earl had one year remaining on his Preston contract when it was terminated in the summer of 2022. After serving for eighteen months with the Cod Army, he then signed for Fleetwood Town, but it looks like he’s headed for the departure. Rumor has it that Earl has had a medical at Oakwell, and Barnsley is reportedly aiming to sign the left-footed defender on a permanent basis.

Tyrhys Dolan, a fellow former academy player, is reportedly drawing interest from Luton Town in another area. After his two-year scholarship, Dolan was not given a professional contract at Deepdale, and in the summer of 2020, Blackburn Rovers signed him. As it stands, Dolan’s contract expires in the summer. However, Rovers do have a one-year option.

Former fan favorite makes a shift

After a year, Joe Garner left Carlisle United to sign an 18-month contract with the National League’s Oldham Athletic. While Carlisle is fighting for relegation in League One following their promotion from the play-offs last year, Oldham is now ranked sixth in the fifth division of English football. Garner, who was coached by former Preston manager Paul Simpson, played at Brunton Park with Paul Huntington, a teammate from North End, and scored 57 goals in 151 games for the boyhood club PNE.

Veteran of North End Academy signed with Millwall

Adam Mayor, 18, of Morecambe, has joined Millwall for an alleged £300k. The fact that Mayor was on PNE’s roster prior to playing for the Shrimps at the under-16 level makes it relevant. He has committed to The Den on a “long term” basis. Mayor, a native of Liverpool, made 67 appearances for Morecambe and contributed eight assists along with seven goals.
