KEY POINTS:

  • In spite of a difficult start to the season, Coventry City is improving under manager Mark Robins’ guidance.
  • The summer saw a lot of changes at the club, including the high-profile sales of Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer.
  • Simon Moore and Callum O’Hare, two players whose contracts are about to expire, will have to establish their worth in the coming month before the club makes decisions regarding their futures.

Coventry City seems to have turned the corner as they aim to move up the league, following a shaky start to the season.

Coventry is getting better after a rough start.

Since rejoining the team, Mark Robins has performed admirably for the Sky Blues, but he suffered grief the previous season when they lost the play-off final at Wembley to Luton.

Even while it doesn’t diminish an incredible season, the defeat was difficult to accept and led to a summer of change for the team as they managed to stay in the second division.

Notably, Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer, two powerful players, were sold for large sums of money, and Robins received the proceeds to add more players.

Naturally, it has taken some time for the most of players to get settled, but Coventry is now beginning to establish themselves as they aim to challenge for the top six once more.

Naturally, the manager will want to be busy as January draws near in order to bolster the team, but because there aren’t any serious issues with the roster, quality will prevail over quantity.

However, there will probably be some departures as well. Here, we’ll focus on TWO Coventry players who have one month to demonstrate why they should be retained on the team.

Simon Moore

When he joined the team for the 21–22 season, the goalkeeper was the first choice, but the previous time around, he had to make due with the backup position.

Even though Moore doesn’t usually make the matchday squad, Robins will still cherish him despite this.

There are undoubtedly questions about his future because his contract expires in the summer, and it appears likely that he will be moving as a free agent.

But, the goalkeeper may value remaining at a club to support other keepers and be a good influence in the dressing room because he understands that at this age, he must drop down the leagues to obtain regular minutes.

Moore’s leadership abilities will be valued by Robins, and they may extend an offer to him to stay on for a little period of time. Alternatively, talks are expected to happen in the upcoming weeks if the employer is aware that he isn’t in his plans going ahead. In that case, it might be advantageous for all sides if a January departure is approved.

Callum O’Hare

callum o'hare

It is ridiculous to say that O’Hare needs to prove his worth because everyone knows he is an incredibly brilliant athlete and the fans value what he has accomplished over the years.

However, it is concerning that he has not yet signed an extension for his contract, which expires in the summer.

Presumably, he believes he deserves a contract that places him among the highest paid, and the fact that a deal hasn’t been signed yet means there may be problems to be resolved. Furthermore, should he experience a sustained period of success in the coming weeks, the club may be persuaded to ensure its completion.

The departure of O’Hare wouldn’t have the same effect as the summer departures.

Coventry is, however, in a challenging situation. If they can’t come to an agreement, they realize that January represents their last opportunity to secure a compensation for a player who is still worth a respectable amount.

Thus, it will be interesting to watch how it turns out, and throughout the next several weeks, you should anticipate movement in either direction.
