Birmingham City linked target 'agrees' League One transfer

Gavin Kilkenny is set to join League One after being linked to a summer transfer to Birmingham City.

Football Insider claims that Blues and Reading had “expressed” interest in signing the AFC Bournemouth midfield player last summer. He stayed on at the Vitality Stadium in the end, but it appears he will be leaving the Dorset team.

But his next stop won’t be the Select Car Leasing Stadium or St Andrew’s. According to a recent report from Football Insider, Kilkenny will go to struggling Fleetwood Town.

Kilkenny has ‘accepted’ to transfer to Highbury Stadium, where Charlie Adam, a former midfielder for Liverpool and Blackpool, will coach him. This season, the 23-year-old has only made one appearance in the FA Cup.

Last Thursday, he participated in 33 minutes in the 5-0 triumph over Swansea City. Six times in Premier League season, the 12-time Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has been left off the field as a substitute.

Kilkenny spent two seasons on loan from Bournemouth, one at Stoke City and the other at Charlton Athletic. He has 37 senior football appearances to his credit and is signed with the Cherries through the summer of 2025.

Birmingham tried to sign two central midfielders this month after failing to sign one in the final days of the summer transfer window. In the meantime, South Korean international Paik Seung-ho is set to finalize a deal this week. Andre Dozzell arrived from Championship rivals QPR.

Regarding Seung-ho’s impending arrival, Mowbray told BirminghamLive, “Let’s wait and see.” Hopefully, he can provide us with some assistance, some quality, and an alternative perspective to what we now have.

He is a forward who can run all day and shoot well from a distance. I have previously overseen South Korean employees, and they are truly remarkable people who strive hard, pay attention, and aspire to improve. We anticipate his arrival and hope that it will enable us to proceed.

“I would hope he could visit us sometime this week.”
