Will Fish is earning high praise while over on loan at Hibernian in Scotland, with the club trying to permanently sign the defender.
Manchester united have always been pretty solid when it comes to developing younger players and granting them their first-team opportunities. You look at Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Both waited patiently for their chance. Both are now flourishing.
The Red Devils have so many young players on their books that some guys simply have no choice but to head out on loan to play their football. Will Fish falls into that bracket, despite being a very gifted young man.
He went to Hibs on loan last season and played well. He’d return to the Scotland club this time around and he’s having a similar impact.
So-much-so that a few days ago, their manager, Nick Montgomery, spoke super highly about Fish. He’d be full of praise for the United loanee that’s impressing in the Scottish Premier League, adding that he ‘would love’ to keep the United centre-back on a permanent deal.
On top of that, Montgomery would share his delight at Fish as a human being, before adding that he has a ‘massive future’ ahead in this game.

“I would love to keep Will, not just this season but on a permanent deal. The kid is still just 20 years old, and he’s growing every week. I think his performances belie his age. He plays like a seasoned professional.” Montgomery is quoted as saying by the Edinburgh Evening News.
“To watch him in training every day and see the effort he puts into games, he’s really low maintenance. I think he’s got a massive future ahead of him.”
I’ve been massively impressed with Fish whenever he has taken to the field in a game that I have watched. He’s still so young in relative centre-back terms and I really do believe he should be given an opportunity at Old Trafford at some point in the not too distant future.
He plays with a maturity beyond his years, which is the first major requirement as a defender when concentration and intelligence is high atop the list of skills required.
Fish’s time in Scotland can only be good for his career. It’ll allow him to build that toughness that’s needed to make it at the highest level. He left United a boy. He will no doubt return a man.
With United struggling in the centre-back position right now, I would not be surprised to see him involved in pre-season next summer. It’s the absolute least he’d deserve after this super impressive loan spell.
