Jay Stansfield, who joined Birmingham City on loan from Fulham during the summer transfer window, was viewed by many at St Andrew’s as a coup, and the young player has performed admirably throughout his stay in the Midlands. However, his stellar play has come at the expense of another Blues player, which may eventually be justified.
The previous season, the Fulham prospect was on loan at League One team Exeter City, where he played for the same team that his late father, Adam, spent the majority of his playing career. It was an emotional experience for the young player.
With nine goals in 28 starts as a winger, Stansfield showed promise in Devon, and the time had come for him to go up to the second division. While that has gone well for him and the Midlands club, Stansfield’s high attendance has hurt one current star, Scott Hogan. Furthermore, if Stansfield continues to play for the team, it might be the last straw for Hogan’s Birmingham career.

Speaking earlier in the week, Tony Mowbray acknowledged that there were teams hoping to move up the Championship table and acquire Stansfield from him. However, the recently appointed manager urged Stansfield to stay because he would continue to get playing time, increasing the likelihood that the young player will play in the Premier League.
“I have been trying to get hold of Marco the last couple of days,” stated Mowbray. Marco Silva and I get along well, so I’m very confident he would have told me if there were any concerns or problems.
“In the end, I believe the child adores it here. I’ve spoken with him one-on-one and looked him in the eye. I believe he wants to stay here and score goals, but there are other parties who may be interested. He enjoys the players and the changing area. He’s probably here to further his profession.
“He must compete in the Championship if he want to play in the Premier League. And occasionally, when a club that appears to be more successful emerges, one that is closer to the top of the table, you have to exercise caution. It could be wise to exercise caution so that you don’t go there and play in only two of the previous 19 games, as there’s a good likelihood he’ll play nearly every minute for this club. Clubs connected to Jay Stansfield
Ipswich Town, who are hoping to move up, were mentioned in reports along with Stansfield, and Kieran McKenna seemed to be interested in signing the 21-year-old. It’s easy to understand why: seven goals in 24 games is an excellent return for a squad that struggled to generate opportunities under troubled manager Wayne Rooney, and his skills might be extremely important at an attacking team like the Tractor Boys.
However, the player will probably see more playing time if he decides to stay with Birmingham. Although he would probably play some part, Conor Chaplin, George Hirst, Omari Hutchinson, and others have contributed to make Ipswich the second-highest scoring team thus far this season.
Why Scott Hogan might be harmed
Hogan is clearly not receiving the playing time he would like at Portman Road; he is already a star player at Birmingham, so he needs to consider his options.

With Lukas Jutkiewicz as his strike partner, Hogan would have more room to flourish and return to his best if Stansfield left to join Ipswich or another interested team. However, because of Wayne Rooney’s bad play, the Blues have fallen to the bottom of the table. As a result, they will do all in their power to hold onto the young player, which will continue to reduce Hogan’s playing time.
Additionally, the fact that Hogan’s contract is up at the end of the current campaign could be a major hindrance to his future career in Birmingham, and it’s quite likely that he will be leaving after the season.
