Former midfield player and Rangers transfer target win monthly Scottish Premiership awards

Rangers transfer target and former midfielder scoop monthly awards

Hearts’ talisman Lawrence Shankland, who won the SPFL’s clear-cut Premiership Player of the Month Award in December, has drawn the attention of Scotland international boss Steve Clarke ahead of Euro 2024.

With 18 goals across all competitions, including a league-high 13 goals in the Premiership, Shankland is now one of the top performers in the top division and has long been rumored to be a transfer target for Glasgow Rangers. In his last six games for the Jambos, the 28-year-old has scored seven goals, six of which came in December.

Hearts have risen to third place in the league thanks to Shankland’s performance. According to Edinburgh News, negotiations are on for the prolific goalscorer to sign an extension, which would make him the club’s highest-paid player in ten years. He is now under contract in the Scottish capital until the summer of 2025.

Rangers are rumored to be interested in the striker, but previous Glasgow World sources indicate that the move wouldn’t happen until Philippe Clement is able to generate enough money from the planned sale of Ridvan Yilmaz.

Additionally, Derek Mcinnes, a former midfielder for Rangers, made headlines when he was named the Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month for December.

Mcinnes, who led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup in the 1990s, is currently leading Kilmarnock, who are sitting pretty in fourth place.

Within six months of taking management at Rugby Park, McInnes led Kilmarnock to promotion, and a strong 10th place result helped the team establish themselves in the premier league.

In McInnes’ second full season as manager, Kilmarnock is looking forward and intends to challenge for a European spot at the end of the campaign.
