According to David Villa, the striker Liverpool acquired for £20 million was superior to Luis Suarez.

Throughout the years, Liverpool has had some incredibly talented strikers at their disposal.

The Reds have usually had a terrific number nine on hand, from Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush to Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler.

More than any other striker in the Reds’ recent history, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez stand out.

Torres caused quite a stir when he joined Chelsea for £50 million in 2011, replacing the sensational Torres who had come from Atletico Madrid for £20 million.

Though both Suarez and Torres left amazing marks on the game, who was the superior player? Speaking to Goal, David Villa, a legend in Spain, asserted that Torres was the better striker.

Suarez was inferior to Torres.

Luis Suarez or Torres? Villa was questioned.

“Torres,” stated Villa.

Hard

Although it’s difficult to say, we think Suarez narrowly wins this debate.

The Uruguayan scored goals for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid at a rate that was higher than Torres’ in the Premier League.

While Suarez’s scores speak for themselves—he previously set the Premier League record for goals in a season and is among Barcelona’s all-time top scorers despite spending just six seasons at Camp Nou—Torres, at his best, was absolutely incredible and has won a World Cup.

In many aspects, Suarez was just superior to Torres; even though Villa was more familiar with Torres’ game, it must be acknowledged that Suarez was capable of things on the field that no other player could.

Even though Suarez is marginally superior to the other forward, these two are among Liverpool’s best forwards in our opinion.
