Manchester United Supporters Trust renders a decision regarding their initial encounter with Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Manchester United’s Supporters Trust have given their reaction to meeting new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe for the first time.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent acquisition of Manchester United was confirmed on Christmas Eve following months of speculation around the 71-year-old’s purchase of the club.

The billionaire was in attendance at Old Trafford over the weekend and he was sat alongside Sir Alex Ferguson.

As well as this, Ratcliffe, who admitted he is a lifelong fan of the Red Devils, stated that the deal to officially acquire the minority stake in the club should be completed by early-mid February.

Ratcliffe met with supporters this week in an attempt to allay any concerns they might have about his purchase of the club as well as his and Ineos’ aims for the club.

United fans react

Communication has been what fans have been crying out for from the Glazer family for years with the American team choosing to only ever speak on the record a handful of times since their takeover of United in 2005.

Well, it is early days but the signs are certainly positive in regards to Ineos’ minority stake and the chair of the MUST (Man United Supporter’s Trust) JD Deitch, who was elected in 2021, gave his thoughts on gave his thoughts on the meeting with the 71-year-old.

“Good meeting today,” Deitch said. “They get it. Very focused on football performance: everything else must flow from it. Cautious (“it will take time”), but will be very structured & thorough.

“Proof will be action, not words. But have to hope they succeed & back the team on the pitch.”

Patience required

It could be argued that this is the single biggest moment in the past decade for the Red Devils as the consistent message since Ferguson retired in 2013, is that the American family at the helm meant United couldn’t progress.

Well, with Ratcliffe and Ineos in charge of sporting decisions, this is the best chance United have had at getting the structure right behind the scenes in years.

If Paul Mitchell and Dan Ashworth are to be appointed at Old Trafford, two men who have vast experience at transforming a football club off the pitch, this should get the fans onside.

Being cautious is natural considering the Glazers will remain in control but the signs are there that this could be a revolutionary few months for United.
