After joining Manchester United, Rasmus Hojlund is expected to develop into one of the world’s top strikers.
Since moving to Old Trafford in the summer, Rasmus Hojlund has had an incredibly tough time. The 20-year-old has made 15 Premier League appearances for United and has scored just one goal.
With five wins out of six in the Champions League, his record is far more spectacular. However, there are doubts about Hojlund’s ability to perform to Manchester United’s standards.
Ruben Selles believes Rasmus Hojlund has what it takes to become one of the world’s top attackers.
The Denmark international failed to capitalize on many excellent opportunities during the FA Cup match against Wigan Athletic. And in the past two months, he has only managed one goal.
When Hojlund was first starting to show up at Copenhagen, Ruben Selles worked with him. The young player has all he needs to succeed, according to the Spaniard, who is currently in charge of Reading after managing Southampton for a brief period of time last season. He made this claim on the Training Ground Guru Podcast.
“I believe Rasmus is a learner who picks up a lot from his surroundings. He didn’t get enough playing time in FC Copenhagen’s first team from the beginning, so he looked for a league similar to the Austrian league. As we’ve discussed previously, the Austrian league has the lowest average of passes per defensive action (PPDA), which indicates that it’s a high-pressure and high-transition-moment league. And at the moment, that was his game.
He thus became an important member of his squad as soon as he arrived there. Scored goals, win balls incredibly high, passionate. And that offered him the courage to advance to the next stage. For this reason, I believe that he moved to Atalanta within six months after Premier League clubs expressed interest in signing him. He went to another squad that like playing fast-paced, high-pressure football by playing on the front foot. The Serie A experience taught him a lot.
And he’s now reaching that level at Manchester United as well. He has already been included in the Danish national squad. Rasmus should therefore be included among the world’s top attackers, in my opinion. However, I believe he will become that once the team also gains more traction than it does at this point.
Through this procedure, he will improve as a player and fortify his mental fortitude. He has performed admirably in every other competition. I believe that he will eventually establish a connection with the fans. He’s going to be amazing once he does it, he continued.
Manchester United must not allow their striker’s potential to be wasted.
Manchester United will be concerned about the fact that a number of players have seen their potential vanish as the team has battled over the past ten years to break out of its rut.
Anthony Martial is perhaps the poster boy for that. But others such as Jadon Sancho and Antony have really struggled at Old Trafford for various reasons.
That just shows that there is often only so much a player can do on their own. And it is imperative that Erik ten Hag is able to build a side around Hojlund which can help bring the best out of him.
There have definitely been some very promising signs since his move to the Premier League. Selles is clearly confident that there is a lot more to come from the striker in the coming years.
