ALLEN PARK — Kevin Strong, a defensive tackle who spent parts of three seasons with the Detroit Lions, was released by the Arizona Cardinals ahead of the regular season finale.

Strong was a surprise late-season cut in Arizona. He’s appeared in 14 games while drawing a career-high 11 starts for the Cardinals this year. The 27-year-old notched 46 tackles, 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, three quarterback hits and one fumble recovery in that action.

The five-year pro initially landed with the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of Texas-San Antonio in 2019. He appeared in 15 games, earning one start during his time with the Lions. Strong notched one sack and hit the quarterback twice in that span. Strong was let go early in the 2021 campaign, eventually landing with and spending the next two seasons with the Tennessee Titans.

Back around these parts, the Lions are getting healthier on the defensive line and had to make some tough late-season moves of their own in the trenches. They waived veteran defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs, and also said farewell to veteran pass rusher Bruce Irvin from their practice squad.

Alim McNeill is on track to return from a stint on injured reserve this weekend against the Minnesota Vikings. McNeill has been out with a knee sprain for the previous month and should be quite the boost ahead of the postseason.
