Statement of intent needed as Coventry City continue to play it cool on transfer window intentions

Coventry City news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner attempts to read the club’s January transfer stance

The January transfer window is open and Coventry City are perfectly placed for a push for the play-offs during the second half of the season for the second year running. Few gave the Sky Blues a chance this time last term when they were 13th in the division, albeit only three points off the top six.

But a late surge saw Mark Robins’ men gate-crash the remaining route to the Premier League and go all the way to Wembley despite being without two of their most creative players, Callum O’Hare and Kasey Palmer. City, however, had two of the best players in the Championship in Gus Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres who led the late charge.

Twelve months on and the squad is stronger overall after a significant summer turnover, with new favourites emerging after a bedding-in period during the first half of the campaign. But what the club do next is the big question on many fans’ lips?

Doug King stated when he took over that he wouldn’t stand for mediocrity or struggling down at the wrong end of the table.
