The Celtic manager has had to draft in temporary reinforcements to bolster his defence and tinker with his midfield as he has managed the team missing the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate.
Now it looks like the end is in sight with regards to the injury ever decreasing injury list and Rodgers cannot wait for the return of one Celtic player.
Rodgers said [The Courier print edition page 52], “Liel [Abada] looked really good on the field when he trained with the group (on Christmas Day).
“We kept him at home to do another session to build him up.
“We’ve missed his running, his goals. He’ll be brilliant for us for the second part of the season.”
The return of Liel Abada is a welcome boost for Celtic
The return of Abada from injury not only helps boost Celtic’s attacking threat, but it will also be a massive boost to Kyogo Furuhashi.
Abada was huge for Celtic in the treble-winning season last season wherein it was not only his assists that were important but his movement off the wing that helped drag defenders to help create space for Kyogo to break through the opposition’s low block.
Despite most of his appearances being off the bench last season, Abada scored 13 goals and created nine assists including important ones in the Scottish Cup Final and against Rangers as Celtic swept up all domestic honours. [Transfermarkt]
After signing a new deal in the summer, Abada was looking really sharp during pre-season before a cruel injury hit during the September international break.
Now back in training, the Celtic fans will be hoping to catch a glimpse of the 21-year-old winger this weekend as Rodgers looks to record another victory against Rangers in his charge for the title.
