Sheffield Wednesday boss explains what will be 'hard' for Owls in next two games

In response to Bambo Diaby’s red card during Sheffield Wednesday’s loss to Coventry City, Danny Rohl has responded. After moving from Preston North End to Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, Bambo Diaby has established himself as a vital member of the team, starting 20 of the Owls’ 24 games to date. Since Danny Rohl’s appointment, the defender has made ten appearances for the full ninety minutes. However, Diaby will now be missing from the team for the first time since October after being sent off in yesterday’s match against Coventry following the full-time whistle.

With just one minute remaining in normal time, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto doubled the Owls’ lead, resulting in a 2-0 loss in the West Midlands.

By the time the full-time whistle blew, Danny Rohl’s team had already lost any points, and things only got worse when Bambo Diaby got into a fight with Liam Kitching.

After the two were sent off, Diaby will serve a three-game suspension, which will prevent him from playing in the games against Cardiff City, Hull City, and Preston North End.

“It was a hard decision at the end of the game, the game was done and then two red cards, one for each side,” Rohl said when questioned about the red card on Radio Sheffield. It is quite challenging. It’s alright, feelings are always present in games, but in a fair game, there was nothing at all. Since the player will now miss the upcoming games, it is difficult for us.

“But we have to move forward now; I told the players that we need to repeat the action and generate fresh momentum. I’ve talked about the process, and it’s always up and not linear. This is what I know: it is somewhat up and down. I will attempt to earn as many points as possible by saying this after each victory. Cardiff was unsatisfactory, and while one point would have been nice today, we must accept this. It is about getting better and moving forward in the coming days.

Bambo Diaby’s replacement?

Under Danny Rohl, Di’Shon Bernard and Bambo Diaby had developed a respectable partnership despite losing their previous two games.

However, given that the defender was given a rare start in the loss to Norwich earlier this month, Michael Ihiekwe might return to the starting lineup in his place.

Ihiekwe has not been used as a substitute in the previous three games, but tomorrow’s trip to Deepdale by Sheffield Wednesday could mark just his sixth start of the year.
