Breaking: Rangers attempt to sign Premier League star to club-record contract

Ahead of a possible January transfer, Rangers have expressed interest in Wolves striker Fabio Silva, according to sources who spoke to Football Insider.

The 21-year-old, who joined Molineux from Portuguese powerhouse Porto in 2020 for a club record fee of £35 million, is open to offers from Premier League teams.

This winter, Philippe Clement’s team is keen to add more attacking players and is considering a forward move.

Going into January, a number of elite teams, including Celtic, the rival of the Rangers, were keeping an eye on Silva.

After making a significant transfer, the attacker has not been able to maintain his level of play at the West Midlands club. In 72 appearances across all competitions, he has only managed five goals and six assists.

Despite making just eight Premier League appearances this season, he has found it difficult to get a look-in under Gary O’Neil.

His final appearance came during a nine-minute bench stint during Wolves’ 2-1 loss to Sheffield United at the beginning of November.

Since then, Silva has gone seven games without playing in the league and has experienced a sharp decline in popularity as Matheus Cunha is usually favored at striker.

The center forward scored in Wolves’ 5-0 EFL Cup victory over League One team Blackpool this season.

While Michael Beale was in charge, Rangers invested a large amount of money this summer on attacking reinforcements, such as Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, and Danilo, but they have generally been viewed as lackluster additions.

After 16 games in charge, Clement has turned around the early-season struggles facing the Gers and is still undefeated across all competitions.

Wolves, who now sit 12th in the Premier League standings after defeating Chelsea 2-1 on Christmas Eve, will next take on Brentford on Wednesday, December 27.

Rangers, who continue to hold second place in the Scottish Premier League, will play Ross County at Ibrox the following day.
