The Rangers postponed tonight’s game against Ross County, they announced just after midday on Wednesday.
The goal for the Gers was to win the Scottish Premiership tonight and move within two points of Celtic before the Old Firm match, but they will not have the opportunity to do so.
The cause of it is the unfavorable weather on the A9 road, which serves as the primary route between Dingwall and Glasgow. Following discussions with Police Scotland, County announced they would not be able to play the match.
Currently wreaking havoc over portions of Britain, Storm Gerrit has dumped a lot of snow on Scotland’s northwestern regions.
Images of the A9 buried in snow demonstrated how hazardous the weather was, and since County had intended to travel on the day of the game, the decision was made not to go in the sake of safety.
Van Der Heyden reacts to Rangers announcement
Assistant manager Stephan Van Der Heyden at Ibrox responded right away to the Rangers’ formal announcement.
The right-hand man of Philippe Clement posted to X along with a brief Instagram message from Rangers, saying, “Cannot even remember when I had a game postponed.”
It’s obvious that Van Der Heyden is unfamiliar with postponed games. The majority of the 54-year-old Belgian’s assistant managing career was spent in his native nation, with brief stays also in Jordan and India.
Thus, it is not surprising that he said it in just ten words. Because of pitch conditions, Scottish football is all too familiar with the possibility of postponements during this time of year.
Ibrox was in perfect shape to host the match against Ross County, according to Rangers. However, it was evident that the Staggies’ route to the stadium was too risky, therefore the game will need to be postponed for a later time.
