Now TEAMtalk are claiming that both Rangers and Celtic are looking to sign Fabio Silva on loan with the striker out of the picture in Gary O’Neil’s Wolves side.
Both Rangers – who’ve lost Danilo and Kemar Roofe to injury – and Celtic – who have lacked firepower this season to date – are known to be on the hunt for a striker in January.
Wolves wonderkid yet to reach potential
Both sides of the Old Firm have routinely faced off in the hunt for signings and it looks like Fabio Silva and Wolves could have some thinking to do in January.
It’s clear the Molineux club highly rate the Portuguese forward, splashing a reported £35.6m to sign the striker from Porto back in 2020 following his breakthrough as a teenager.
Back then, Chinese chairman Jeff Shi branded Silva “the best number nine coming through his age group anywhere in Europe”.
That high status in the Wolves squad also hasn’t been lost in recent seasons, despite the striker’s struggles, with the club handing Fabio Silva a new contract last summer.
Upon doing so, the Premier League club sent Silva out on loan to Anderlecht with Technical Director Scott Sellars claiming a temporary switch was to “help him develop to be the best player he possibly can be”.
It would suggest that, given Fabio Silva has scored once in 10 showings under the Wolves manager this season, Wolves are very much open to sending the striker on loan to maximise his potential.
Rangers or Celtic for Fabio Silva?
Both Rangers and Celtic boast genuine transfer appeal to any player but especially one who is looking to get that time on the ball and those opportunities to boost his numbers.
At Wolves, Fabio Silva has to contend with his side being underdogs throughout the Premier League season whereas at the Old Firm domination is the name of the game.
Both Glasgow sides are in a title hunt and securing a player of such talent would be considered something of a coup for a Scottish side.
But if we’re taking emotions out of the situation and placing both clubs head-to-head, there is surely only one winner for both Fabio Silva and Wolves.
New Rangers Director of Recruitment Nils Koppen would’ve been part of the team who took Fabio Silva to PSV in the second half of last season, potentially smoothing out any would-be deal.
Whilst both sides also remain in the hunt for silverware, if we’re talking a six month loan the Ibrox side are also the only of the two who have European football in the second half of the season.
Three talking points as Rangers ensure Merry Christmas with early Motherwell ram-raid
The eventual 2-0 victory was enough to move within two points of the top of the Scottish Premiership and maintain Clement’s unbeaten start as manager.
Resurgent striker Cyriel Dessers also had two goals ruled out for offside in the match, with the second in particular a controversially tight call.
Now 16 games without defeat under the new Rangers boss, here’s three things we learned as the Gers team spread a little Christmas Eve cheer at Fir Park.
Makeshift Rangers midfield make meal of Motherwell
Rangers might be nursing a series of injuries – particularly in the middle of the park – but it made little difference against Motherwell.
There remains major doubts that Nicolas Raskin, Ryan Jack, Jose Cifuentes or even John Lundstram will be available before the winter break but Rangers are coping.
Kieran Dowell – who is finally back in the side after a frustrating early season injury of his own – opened the scoring and followed up his positive display against St Johnstone at Ibrox with a fine showing in north Lanarkshire.

Dujon Sterling, traditionally a right full-back, also once again impressed with his intelligent positioning and athletic contribution and both played a big role in this important victory.
Leon Balogun is Philippe Clement’s man
Ben Davies is £4m centre-back whose been consistently unavailable since joining the Gers last season and he was once again not included in the club’s squad against Motherwell.
John Souttar, another who has had a series of injury problems, later came off the bench alongside teenage centre-back Leon King, who has been used more recently as a midfielder amid the aforementioned crisis.
But once again Philippe Clement opted to go for Leon Balogun from the start and once again the Nigerian international centre-back delivered for his manager.
It’s clear Belgian boss Philippe trusts his man Balogun and after another fully committed display against Motherwell, it’s clear big Leon is Clement’s man alongside Connor Goldson.
Rangers wide options
Suggestions that Rangers had lost their width from the squad this summer with the exits of Ryan Kent and Fashion Sakala appear to have been short-lived.
In the victory over Motherwell, Rangers started the game with Abdallah Sima on the left and Ross McCausland on the right.
Later in the match Welsh international Rabbi Matondo and then Scottish winger Scott Wright came off the bench.
Whilst other areas of the squad look decidedly short, suddenly Rangers have a series of options in the wide areas both from the start and from the bench.
