Boss Philippe Clement has been sweating over the fitness of his key defender
Philippe Clement is concerned that Connor Goldson may be seriously injured for this Saturday’s Old Firm match at Parkhead.
Near the end of the 2-0 victory at Motherwell on Christmas Eve, the Rangers defender hobbled off, seemingly suffering from a groin strain. With nine first-team players already out of the picture, Clement will be crossing his fingers that Goldson doesn’t end up as the tenth victim. The 31-year-old won’t likely be put in danger during tomorrow night’s game against Ross County as Clement worries about the health of his standout defender.Given the length of the Ibrox club’s injury list—which includes Borna Barisic, Ben Davies, Ryan Jack, Jose Cifuentes, John Lundstram, Nico Raskin, Tom Lawrence, Kemar Roofe, and Danilo—Clement hasn’t held back when expressing his dissatisfaction. The Gers manager, though, acknowledges that he’s getting tired of responding to inquiries about injury updates.
“People are asking these questions,” he continued. I have to talk about it even though I’m a little tired of it. I dunno, we’ll see the next day, and then it’s just another game.
We assess the players’ fitness and the state of the situation on a daily basis. I’m living day to day because it’s hard to plan ahead.”
