“Will be sold”: According to Mark Guidi, the 23-year-old Celtic star is currently receiving “strong interest.”

Hard work is key for Celtic outcasts, says Brendan Rodgers

Over the past month or so, Celtic has been vocal—in fact, I should say that Brendan Rodgers has been vocal—about the necessity to reduce the team for the upcoming January transfer window.

The head coach of the Houston Rockets is looking to bring in players that are either deemed unfit to play any longer in the current season or have no future with the team.

One of those players that appears to be leaving the team is Gustav Lagerbielke, a 23-year-old Swedish defender.

Despite being utilized by Rodgers during his defensive injury crisis at the beginning of the season, the Swedish Defender of the Year has been a bit part player during the past several months.

Lagerbielke’s Celtic career appears to have come to an end after he made a critical error in the Champions League group stage match against Feyenoord. It appears that he will most likely be sold next month.

Journalist Mark Guidi earlier reported that he was informed by those inside Celtic Park that Rodgers doesn’t think highly of the young player and that he now appears to be heading away.

“I think, Gus Lagerbielke, there’s a strong interest on him and I think there’s an expectation that he will be sold next month,” Guidi stated on The Go Radio Football Show.

“There have already been a few moves in that direction with European clubs. Brendan Rodgers doesn’t seem to be all that concerned about losing him, either.

“I believe a decision has already been made regarding him, and there is undoubtedly interest there.”

The Celtic boss has obviously made up his mind with Lagerbielke, and if a number of European teams are showing a lot of interest in him, then perhaps Celtic will be able to recover the most of the £3 million they were persuaded to pay for him in the summer.

While he did start the season off positively for Celtic, it’s unfortunate that he wasn’t given more opportunity to establish himself. In the home sphere, at least.

Perhaps Rodgers believes that Lagerbielke will simply not be able to lead the team to success in Europe, so instead of extending the young player’s Celtic career, he is being brutally early.

For the sake of both Celtic and the player, let’s hope that Lagerbielke’s problem is resolved quickly, whatever of the cause.
