Fresh question marks have been raised over Bruno Fernandes’ captaincy following his behaviour during Manchester United’s Premier League defeat to West Ham
Manchester United fans have laid into Bruno Fernandes following his antics during the 2-0 defeat to West Ham.
Fernandes missed last weekend’s 0-0 draw at Liverpool after picking up five Premier League bookings. He returned to Erik ten Hag’s side for lunchtime kick-off at the London Stadium, only to see yellow again early in the second half after grappling with Mohammed Kudus, with the booking drawing ironic cheers from Hammers fans.
Not only that, but Fernandes foolishly risked another card straight after by moaning at the referee Simon Hooper, leaving frustrated United fans furious. Some even called for him to be stripped of the captaincy.

One raged: “Bruno Fernandes needs his captaincy revoked with the kind of s***** attitude he’s been displaying.” Another said: “I think Bruno enjoys being booked.”
A third added: “Bruno, foul a player and complains why he got booked? Duh.” A fourth moaned: “Bruno doing everything he can to get an extra holiday! FFS, already booked and arms waving at every decision and mouthing off at ref!”

Another frustrated fan said: “Bruno’s contribution was to cry on the floor in the first half, then throw his toys out of the pram when he got booked.”
A sixth commented: “Bruno Fernandes has been going at the ref ever since he was booked, I guess dissent is a rule they use when they see fit.”
United had arguably been the better side in the first half, only for David Moyes’ side to run away with the game in the final 20 minutes. Jarrod Bowen scored his 12th goal of the season on 72 minutes and Kudus hit his seventh six minutes later to condemn United to their 20th loss of 2023, their worst tally in 34 years, and 13th of the season across all competitions.
