Rumor: Mavericks are “very interested” in acquiring a captivating young center

Dallas assembled an excellent supporting group around Kyrie Irving and Luka Dončić, but the Mavs have struggled recently due to a resurgence of injuries. They have been winning games while missing Josh Green, Irving, and Maxi Kleber, and now Lively II is injured.

Dallas’ frontcourt rotation is getting thin, so this is not ideal. Using the trade market is one method they may make it right.

The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III reports that the Mavericks have expressed “great interest” in acquiring Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart through trade.

Stewart is averaging 10.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.6 blocks, and 45.5 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from three-point range for the Pistons this season. He is a very intriguing trade target for Dallas, having started every one of the Pistons’ 25 games this season.

Stewart has the potential to be the Mavericks’ ideal backup big man. The team clearly needs one. He is exceptional in both pick and pop and pick and roll, and ever since joining the NBA, his shooting has only gotten better.

In addition, he makes sound decisions and is an underappreciated passer. In Dallas, Stewart would be a valuable addition off the bench because of his physicality, tenacity, and intensity. Because he has no fear of anyone, the Mavericks need a player like him to come off the bench.

Although the details of a possible trade for Stewart are unknown, the Mavs would unquestionably improve if Stewart joined the bench. At just 22, he is a huge improvement over Richaun Holmes and Dwight Powell. He would be able to develop with the present team and stay in Dallas for the foreseeable future thanks to his recently inked contract extension.
