Rangers’ total Viaplay Cup winnings in terms of prizes and TV revenue

With a late winner against Aberdeen, skipper James Tavernier helped Rangers win the Viaplay Cup on Sunday.

Three days prior to the Hampden match, Philippe Clement led the Ibrox giants to the Europa League round of 16, capping an amazing few days for the team.

After 12 years without winning the trophy, the Rangers now have it back in Govan, where they have won it a record 28 times.

Rangers’ voyage started with a home draw with Greenock Morton, and they advanced to the final with victories against Livingston and Hearts.

Rangers v Aberdeen - Viaplay Cup Final

Prior to the match, Aberdeen had defeated Rangers in both of their encounters this season. However, Tavernier’s superbly timed shot and the Gers’ overwhelming victory that day made for an unforgettable celebration evening.

The victory will have increased Rangers’ finances as well. It’s also not a terrible little earner when you add up all of the guaranteed money that the Viaplay Cup run has brought in. Here, we figure out the money that Rangers made.

Rangers Viaplay Cup cash

The SPFL stated in the summer of 2023 that there would be a record overall reward pot for the players in the event before of the Viaplay Cup group stage draw.

It meant that the winners would receive the largest portion of the prize money, which amounted to almost £2.3 million in total.

Rangers won £380,000 in prize money after winning the competition and getting all the way to the top. While not very outstanding, we’ll take it nonetheless.

Rangers Viaplay Cup TV income

On top of the prize money confirmed by the SPFL, the governing body also said further sums – facility fee payments – would be handed out to clubs involved in live televised matches.

For every club involved in a knockout round tie all the way up to the final that was broadcast on television, they would receive £27k per match.

Rangers saw all of their Viaplay Cup encounters shown on TV so in total, the Ibrox club earned £108k of facility fee payments.

So by adding up the prize money and TV income, Rangers earned £488k from their Viaplay Cup success in total.
