Falkirk Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Ryan Shanley on a six-month contract, with an option of an additional year. The 22-year-old striker will formally join The Bairns on January 1st, having left Edinburgh City earlier this month.

Ryan started out as a young player for Hibernian and later played on loan for Kelty Hearts, Forfar Athletic, and Civil Service Strollers and other teams. In a 3-0 victory over St Mirren, he made his Hibs club debut as a substitute. He then went on loan to the Irish team Finn Harps.

In June of 2021, Ryan joined Edinburgh City. He has four goals this season in all competitions, including two league goals against Cove Rangers and Hamilton Academical.

The club would like to formally thank the Falkirk Supporters Society and its members; the signing was made possible in part by the new subscriptions collected over the past two months.

About his latest hire, John McGlynn said:

“Having Ryan committed for the rest of the season makes us very happy. Ryan is a player for Edinburgh City, a financially troubled team, and we are incredibly fortunate to have signed him as a free agent.

“As a young player moving through Hibs’ junior system, I saw this well-known striker; he was a threat and always well-respected in the lower levels. He’s in our division because he’s an Edinburgh City player, but having someone with his caliber of experience at this point in the season is undoubtedly helpful.

Though he will need to earn a spot on the team, he is a valuable addition. He’s played with two or three of our other players at Hibs and is familiar with the league. This is his opportunity to establish himself—he’s been playing football part-time and wants to start playing full-time—and it will definitely help us both. We are thrilled to have him join and hope he can go right to work because he is a little different from the other strikers we have.
