Lawrence Shankland’s social media suggestion following the Viaplay Cup victory on Sunday (17 December) has probably increased the rumors that he could be in line for a transfer push from Rangers.
The Light Blues supporter and captain of Hearts has been more and more connected to a potential January move to Ibrox, and his like on the SPFL Official Instagram page photo of the festivities at Hampden won’t help to refute such rumors.
Although Hearts have stated that they do not need to sell and will only accept a “exceptional” offer to part with the Scotland international, several commentators have identified the Tynecastle forward as the top choice to solve Clement’s striker concerns [Edinburgh News, 14 December].
Although it’s unclear if Rangers can afford to sign the 28-year-old on a midseason contract, the Ibrox manager disclosed that he has been following Shankland since his time in Belgium before their initial encounter with Hearts.
Although the goal scorer is a known supporter of the Glasgow Rangers (Scottish Sun), he will also be aware that there are many hints that he is expected to be a transfer target. Therefore, his admiration for the trophy victory may indicate that he would be open to joining the team next month if the proper offer is made.
It will ultimately come down to numbers because, should the two clubs fail to come to an agreement, he will continue to be Steven Naismith’s main man and score goals, just as he has done ever since he returned to the SPFL.
