Jon Dahl Tomasson has admitted Blackburn Rovers’ squad ‘needs help’ ahead of the January transfer window.

With two weeks until the New Year window, it’s unclear whether Blackburn will be able to add to their roster in the New Year. Venky’s had £11.5million approved by the High Court but that is to cover utility bills, wages and other obligations.

Chief Executive Steve Waggott said that Gregg Broughton has been drawing up transfer options ‘for all scenarios’ for January but resources are once again likely to be tight. Rovers are likely to be restricted to loans with the owners unable to significantly invest.

But considering the injuries that Tomasson’s young squad have suffered, the team is desperate for reinforcements. The Rovers head coach believes the team is desperate for extra blood in the squad but again insisted it is the club’s responsibility to recruit.

“If you see the players, they need help,” Tomasson said.

“Hopefully, the club can manage to help the players, I think the fans would like that. The staff would like it as well.”

The defeat at St Mary’s was Rovers’ joint-biggest defeat under Tomasson but considering the quality of the opposition and the recent schedule, a free week should deliver a better performance against Watford.

“You can see they are tired in the end,” he said. “They are trying their best but they are playing a quality side.

“All three teams, Leicester, Leeds, Southampton, should be playing in the Premier League. The Leeds game and the Leicester game, we could’ve won those games. Today, we were not at our best with the ball.

“We have a lot of football to play, it’s a great league. We are stretched in a few positions but we are enjoying every game. Today, we are disappointed especially when we were that poor on the ball.

“I have a lot of players that have played too many minutes and they aren’t used to playing too many minutes. The squad is stretched and it’s a very young squad at this level. We have the opportunity to rest and hopefully, they can get going again for next week.”
