Four minor leaguers who the Phillies can count
Dave Dombrowski has stated that he is not as concerned with chasing stars as he is with the Phillies roster’s complementing players right now. Most of the players on the roster, particularly the regulars, are essentially unchangeable.
However, the teams with significant roster depth are the best in the league—they are the ones that perform well during the regular season and make it far into the postseason. That encompasses a productive and flourishing farming system.
Organizations call up players from their Double- and Triple-A teams for reinforcements year after year, and those players must perform well for the major league team to win. The teams who have been consistently successful over the years, such as the Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay Rays, and now the Baltimore Orioles, are the best examples of this. Teams that appear to always have a minor league player available who can step up and perform under pressure.
The Phillies’ minor league system hasn’t produced much success in recent years, with rare exceptions. However, in the past few years, prospects have risen in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 rankings and made noise indicating that they are prepared to contribute. With so many high-priced great players already on the squad, Dombrowski and general manager Sam Fuld have previously emphasized the value of having less expensive supplementary players like Bryson Stott, Alec Bohm, Brandon Marsh, and Cristopher Sánchez.
In 2024, who among the Phillies’ farm system prospects will emerge as that player? Many players from Triple-A and even Double-A, as well as those on the 40-man roster, will most likely get a chance this season.
Let’s examine a few of them players and what the major league team can gain from them.
