Controversy: Coventry City Faces Fan Backlash Over Family Zone Policy and Ticket Exchange System.

Coventry City: Sky Blues confirm safe standing for 2024-25 season - BBC Sport

Coventry City has faced criticism from supporters following their announcement regarding the Family Zone at the CBS Arena and the introduction of a new Ticket Exchange system. Some fans are expressing discontent, with one stating that owner Doug King has “completely missed the mark” and describing the new policy as unsatisfactory. Conversely, others view the changes as reasonable.

The club explains that they are modifying the terms and conditions of Family Zone Season Tickets for the upcoming 2024/25 season due to feedback and ticket demand for this section. Approximately one-third of Family Zone seats remain unused during matchdays, denying other supporters the opportunity to benefit from this area. Therefore, the club aims to maximize attendance in the Family Zone by implementing changes.

The proposed changes include requiring fans who cannot attend Family Zone games to use the new Ticket Exchange system for fixtures, with further details to be provided later. Failure to utilize the Ticket Exchange system for three or more occasions will result in the revocation of the Season Ticket for the remainder of the season, with seats being offered on a match-by-match basis to qualifying individuals. Additionally, exceeding ten instances of using the Ticket Exchange will also lead to the revocation of the Season Ticket for the rest of the season, with no refunds given. Non-compliance with these requirements will also result in restrictions on purchasing or renewing tickets for the 2025/26 campaign in the Family Zone.

Coventry City Owner and Executive Chairman Doug King acknowledges the club’s growing youth section and emphasizes the importance of utilizing Family Zone seats. He mentions the positive response to the Family Zone offer in the previous season but expresses disappointment over the number of unused seats during certain games. King emphasizes the need for fan understanding regarding the reasons behind these changes.

The club has observed instances of fans exploiting discounted Family Zone tickets, such as purchasing an adult season ticket along with a child ticket but not bringing the child to many games, as well as fans buying tickets in the Family Zone but regularly relocating to other areas of the stadium.

Supporters have expressed a range of opinions on the matter, with some criticizing the club’s decision, particularly regarding the impact on families and the handling of season ticket revocations, while others see it as a necessary measure to prevent abuse of the system and ensure fair access to tickets.
