‘Disgrace’… Troy Deeney stunned by decision West Ham are said to have made

Troy Deeney didn’t mince his words regarding West Ham’s reported decision to appoint Julen Lopetegui as their new manager. In his column for The Sun, Deeney labeled the move a “disgrace,” expressing his disbelief at the club’s choice to replace David Moyes with another defensive-minded coach.

Deeney highlighted the fans’ desire for a change in style of play, seeking more attacking excitement, but he questioned the logic behind appointing Lopetegui, especially considering his track record and recent departure from Wolves just before the start of the season.

The former Wolves striker pointed out Lopetegui’s poor win rate at the club and raised concerns about whether the Spanish manager would demonstrate commitment to West Ham or potentially quit on them as he did with Wolves.

Deeney’s criticism reflects the sentiments among some West Ham supporters, who appear skeptical about Lopetegui’s suitability for the role and the direction he might take the club.

In contrast to Deeney’s perspective, some fans had hoped for a younger and more progressive manager like Graham Potter to build on Moyes’ foundations, viewing Lopetegui’s potential appointment as a continuation of the same defensive style rather than a fresh approach.

While Lopetegui boasts an impressive managerial CV with experience at top clubs like Spain, Real Madrid, Porto, and Sevilla, his reported appointment at West Ham hasn’t generated much enthusiasm or excitement among supporters, at least initially.
