Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has revealed how many hours he has worked at the club since taking over.

Rohl took over Sheffield Wednesday in October, succeeding Xisco Munoz, who left the club after a dismal start to the 2023-24 season.

Sheffield Wednesday’s fortunes have improved since Rohl’s arrival, with the team winning 16 games in all competitions. They finished the season in 20th place, three points above of the bottom three.

Rohl has worked hard in what is his first managing position. In a recent interview with German media, he admitted to working 80 hours a week at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday’s boardroom is notoriously streamlined, with owner Dejphon Chansiri taking on more responsibilities than the average football chairman.

There is no sporting director, CEO, or COO, so Rohl has had to take up the slack. Reports earlier this season indicated that Rohl was even in charge of managing hotel bookings, demonstrating how tight the ship is at Sheffield Wednesday.

Rohl, speaking to German site RBlive, revealed that Sheffield’s structures are lean.

“There are no sports directors or team managers. But I’m fortunate to have a fantastic staff of trainers who are quite supportive.

“But let’s be honest: there are simpler initial roles as a head coach. It takes approximately 70 to 80 hours. The following ones are sometimes short.”

One thing remains important for Dejphon Chansiri.

Rohl and Chansiri recently met and had excellent discussions about Rohl’s future with the club.

Rohl, the Owls’ manager, seeks assurances concerning the summer transfer window and enhancements to the club’s Middlewood training facility. However, there is one additional factor that might significantly benefit Sheffield Wednesday.

A sporting director remains something that Sheffield Wednesday could greatly benefit from, with Rohl’s disclosure regarding his working hours shedding light on both how difficult it has been for him and how well he has done.

If there was someone to function as a liaison between Rohl and Chansiri, as well as someone with some football knowledge, it would alleviate a lot of Rohl’s stress and allow him to focus more on the team.

However, whether Chansiri will approve it remains to be seen. He appears to be keeping a very hands-on role at the club, but if Sheffield Wednesday can have a successful summer, fans will not mind who makes the decision.
