The South London Press & Mercury reports that the Addicks are interested in signing Sky Blues forward Matty Godden, who has served the team well in the past.
Godden scored 14 goals in just 26 third-tier appearances when Mark Robins’ side was promoted from League One to the Championship following the abbreviated 2019/20 season, before helping the Sky Blues maintain their Championship position by scoring six goals in the 2020/21 season.

During the 2021/22 season, the 32-year-old scored his most goals in the second tier, 12 in 24 games, as Robins and his teammates finished in the top half.
The Sky Blues advanced to the 2023 Championship play-off final, where they were eliminated in a penalty shoot-out by Luton, but Godden played an important part in the regular season, scoring eight goals and assisting four times.
Godden might be an important addition for the Addicks.
The forward definitely has a dangerous eye for goal, but he may be most effective when he can assist an even more clinical goal scorer.
For two and a half seasons, Godden was the ideal complement to the lethal Viktor Gyokeres, who scored 21 goals in the 2022/23 Championship season, including the playoffs.
He may play a similar position in the Valley, with Alfie May, who is undoubtedly the top striker in League One, having won the 2023/24 golden boot with 23 goals despite the Addicks’ bottom half finish.
May was a prolific striker at his old club, Cheltenham Town, where he scored 20 goals in the third tier in 2022/23, after scoring 23 the previous season.
Under Jones’ leadership, Godden and May could form a fearsome strike combination capable of giving the Addicks significant promotion credentials, thus the club must seek a deal for the Sky Blues player.
