A managerial role has been relinquished by a former player of Leeds United, Sheffield United, and Bradford City.

Paynter, who has experience playing for Hull City and Doncaster Rovers, assumed the role of manager for the eighth-tier team in March of last year. Before this, he had coaching stints at Everton’s academy and was part of the senior setup at Port Vale.

Under his leadership, the Linnets achieved a commendable second-place finish in the Northern Premier League Division One West, although they missed out on promotion in the play-offs. Now, at 39 years old, Paynter has stepped down from his position, expressing gratitude in a farewell statement for the opportunity and support he received during his tenure.

He acknowledged the board, coaching staff, and players who contributed to the team’s journey, as well as the loyal fans for their unwavering support. Despite the disappointment of not securing promotion, Paynter took responsibility for the setback and decided to leave his role as Runcorn Linnets manager.

Runcorn’s chairman, Peter Cartledge, praised Paynter for his achievements and professionalism during his time with the club. Despite the recent defeat in the play-off semi-finals, Cartledge emphasized the significance of finishing second in the league and thanked Paynter for his dedication and integrity. The club is now focused on finding a suitable successor for the upcoming season.
