Sheffield Wednesday face Sunderland in the Championship this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday face Sunderland on their final day of the 2023/24 season, hoping to earn a point against a struggling team.

Only Rotherham United has taken less points than Sunderland since the beginning of 2024.

They are in 15th place in the Championship table, just six points ahead of the Owls in 20th, who have a three-point buffer to the drop zone.

Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl can clinch their destiny by winning or drawing at Sunderland. If they lose, they must rely on Birmingham City not beating Norwich City.

The Owls’ amazing turnaround this season is nearly complete.

Rohl expects his players to be fully prepared for the final obstacle and may have additional players available for selection this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Rohl spoke with the press on Thursday and provided some obvious indicators about the team.

Sheffield Wednesday could welcome back Ian Poveda and Michael Ihiekwe this weekend, according to The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday’s only absentee is Juan Delgado, while Bambo Diaby and Di’Shon Bernard have returned to play against West Brom.

How will Sheffield Wednesday line up versus Sunderland?

Sheffield Wednesday delivered an outstanding showing against West Brom last time out.

Rohl may be hesitant to make any changes for this weekend, but if Poveda or Ihiekwe are fit to start, they may do so.

Ihiekwe appears to be further along in his recuperation than Poveda, having returned to the XI following short injury layoffs this season.

Ihiekwe may replace Dominic Iorfa at the back, but the starting lineup is likely to remain similar from the win against West Brom.

Here’s how we expect Sheffield Wednesday to line up against Sunderland on Saturday…
