Caitlin Clark Goes Viral in Fever Halfcourt Shooting Contest

Caitlin Clark concluded the second day of the Indiana Fever training camp with a demonstration of her precise shooting.

On Monday in Indianapolis, she dribbled the ball from midcourt to the basket at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The video of Clark winning her team’s halfcourt shooting competition went viral on Monday night.

The Fever social media team exclaimed on X, formerly Twitter, “[Caitlin Clark] wins the first halfcourt shot contest of the season…but [Kelsey Mitchell] says she needs to back up.”

The Fever continued, “She needs to start all the way back there because her regular shot starts right here!”

Shooting from that far away, or nearly that far, is nothing new for Clark. In February, she broke the all-time NCAA scoring record for men and women in the same manner.

Clark threw the ball from close to the Iowa Hawkeyes logo in the first half of a game against Michigan on February 15. She finished the evening with a Hawkeyes record 49 points, surpassing “Pistol” Pete Maravich’s previous record of 3,667.

The Fever chose her with the first pick in the WNBA draft on April 15 due to her dominance at Iowa. This year, throughout the process—which included a women’s Final Four that broke viewership records—Clark’s superstardom soared.

Caitlin Clark Had to Keep Going Despite Not Being Able to Break the NCAA Record
Despite being an explosive shooter, Clark persevered at Iowa, finishing with a.462 field goal percentage and a.377 three-point percentage. She shot 2,798 times and made 1,452 three-pointers to reach the all-time high in points.

“Not everything will be flawless. Although I’m a perfectionist, I perform best when I give myself a little leeway and don’t expect everything to go according to plan. At the same time, that’s what made me so great,” Clark stated on April 17 at her first press conference.

The Fever training camp has begun, and soon preseason play will begin. On Friday, Clark and the Fever will play the Dallas Wings.
