Curtis Davies, a former defender for Aston Villa, Birmingham City, and West Brom, is set to announce his retirement from professional football. The 39-year-old had a notable career spanning across the Premier League and the Championship, notably playing for various West Midlands clubs. Despite his achievements, his recent experience included relegation from League One with Cheltenham Town. Following his recent birthday, Davies is expected to conclude his 21-year journey in football with the Robins.
In a post-match interview, Davies’ manager, Darrell Clarke, praised his resilience and described him as a “warrior.” Reflecting on his time with the team, Davies expressed gratitude for his teammates and their determination throughout the season.
Davies had stints with Leicester City and Birmingham City, contributing significantly to the latter with over 100 appearances. He later joined Hull City under Steve Bruce’s management, where he played a key role in their promotion back to the Premier League. His career continued with Derby County, where he spent several seasons in the Championship before a brief spell in League One. Noteworthy achievements in his career include reaching the FA Cup final, winning the Championship play-offs, and securing the League One title with Luton in 2005. If he does retire, Davies will have amassed a total of 679 club appearances across eight different teams.
