We spoke about': Sheff Wed captain makes SAFC claim immediately after West Brom win

Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan says the team discussed securing their Championship survival at Sunderland shortly after defeating West Brom 3-0 at Hillsborough.

The Owls have spent much of the season in the relegation zone, but they have seven points from their last three games. After a 1-1 draw against Stoke, Danny Rohl’s team has won consecutive games against Blackburn and West Brom to climb out of the bottom three. A draw at Sunderland would secure their Championship status.

Bannan stated on the club’s website that they discussed maximising points from the previous three games following the Stoke game. “That’s the second job completed, and we’ve taken six from six. We just spoke before taking the lap of honour, about going to Sunderland next week and finishing the job and getting another three points.

“I’m just thrilled with the group because it was a big, big stage again today, and it took enormous guts and mental fortitude to face a team that made us suffer at times. We demonstrated that we are willing to put our bodies on the line for this club, which is what the fans expect and what we want as a club.

He added, “The job is not finished. We have a big game away to Sunderland next week. We are going to go there with confidence. As I previously stated, we set out after Stoke to win the last nine points, and we’ve won six of six. We’re going there to try and win the game.”
