“Not up to it”: Chris Sutton says the £2 million Celtic player doesn’t appear quite talented enough.

Chris Sutton has already delivered his verdict on one of Celtic’s summer signings after what he has seen so far this season.

The former Hoops hero was running the rule over the current Celtic squad and admits that Hyunjun Yang is one player he feels is not good enough for Celtic.

Even though he may have skill, he still seems a long way from having what it takes to play at this level. He appeared to have won a raffle to get a game last weekend.

It’s a little strange to infer that Yang is now unworthy since Sutton was just a short while earlier expressing his admiration for the South Korean.

Remember that Yang is just 22 years old, has relocated halfway across the globe, and is probably still getting used to life in Glasgow.

Even if I acknowledge that Yang’s performances have been incredibly uneven, let’s not act as though his acquisition was intended to use him in a starting role so early in his career.

Injuries to Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada have forced Brendan Rodgers to play Yang when it is more probable that he would have been used sparingly until he was up to speed with life at Celtic and in Scotland.

Although I concur that the evidence indicates he isn’t talented enough to start, there is also evidence to imply that he may be a highly effective impact player off the bench.

And when Maeda and Abada are well, this is what I believe he will become. Yang will learn his craft as a second fiddle to both wingers.

Only then will he be able to be judged, since any claim as of right now that he isn’t talented enough to play for the Celtics is completely unjust and off the mark.

In other reports, following yesterday’s loss, Celtic instructed to sign a 26-year-old Kilmarnock player.
