The 5-2 loss at Selhurst Park today was the worst performance by West Ham under David Moyes, the manager has acknowledged.
“Yeah, that was the worst defeat under me but also by the team,” Moyes stated in a statement made immediately following the game. The team today, in my opinion, was really subpar.
“We were without Jarrod and without a couple of the center-backs, and it showed,” the Hammers’ manager went on. I had prepared the players for how important the game was and how important it was that we do well. We were very far away from everything today.

Moyes said, “Yes indeed, I’d have used stronger words than that,” in response to the question of whether the defense was startling and disorganized.
And so it is once more, the players are squarely blamed while the manager bears no responsibility.
Although it goes without saying that the players were worn out and exhausted, Moyes made the decision to field a smaller team in the Premier League than West Ham had at the start of the season.

What is the status of Lucas Paqueta? At Selhurst Park, David Moyes seemed to have focused more on West Ham’s defensive shortcomings than his own failings, but one particular Brazilian seemed to have escaped criticism.
Paqueta gave an incredibly subpar performance against Crystal Palace. He wasn’t the only one, of course, to perform poorly on yet another deplorable Premier League day for West Ham. However, it appeared that the £85 million player for the Hammers had been criticized recently for missing Thursday’s Europa League match at the London Stadium, and he hadn’t shown up at Selhurst Park either. Kudus, Soucek, Ogbonna, and Coufal were all below average, no doubt about it, but at least they seemed to care.
Lucas Paqueta’s performance against Crystal Palace was pitiful and ineffectual.
But unlike his teammates, Paqueta was unable to use fatigue from Thursday’s game as an excuse for his multiple stops from running. The usual antics of Paqueta rolling around on the floor were in store for Irons away fans, as well as a string of erroneous and hesitant passes.
The Brazilian’s ability to move past his FA investigation and turn in incredible performances has amazed me the entire season. But it has been a while since we have witnessed the caliber of brilliance that warrants an £80 million price tag.
Probably too late for him to turn around our season and get the team back to playing in Europe. He’s more of a burden than a help, though, if he keeps up the form of his most recent games.
