Bright Future: West Ham sensation destined for senior debut after

Lewis Orford, compared to Declan Rice, is too big for David Moyes to ignore any longer

Lewis Orford, a young player from West Ham, has caught David Moyes’ attention. This is especially in light of his performance during the Under-21s’ hard defeat to Ajax on Tuesday, April 9.
The youthful Hammers lost 3-2 in the Premier League International Cup despite leading 2-0 against the Dutch team and having Mason Terry save a penalty kick.

On the other hand, Orford can be proud of himself after making an incredible goal from midfield. After stealing the ball from an Ajax midfielder, he struck the ball into the upper corner.

There is very little depth for West Ham in the midfield, particularly with Edson Alvarez sidelined. The 18-year-old prospect may be able to make room with Kalvin Phillips’ displays.

The young midfielder’s versatility, which includes his ability to drop into the center of defense, should pique Moyes’ interest.

Orford was compared to Declan Rice and Michael Carrick in a 2022 Guardian article. “West Ham continues to be a production line for midfielders and Orford, a lifelong fan, might be the latest to follow Declan Rice, Mark Noble, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, and Michael Carrick,” wrote John Brewin on September 27, 2022.

“He has a stature reminiscent of both Rice and Carrick, but he moves faster than either of them, and his ability to pass beyond his years has made him the Hammers’ Under-18 playmaker.”

To consider how much the midfield player has grown and improved since then would be astounding.

Could Lewis Orford get his first opportunity at West Ham United under David Moyes?
This season, Orford has made numerous appearances on the first team bench in both the Premier League and the Europa League, but he has yet to make his debut on the field.

Although many will still be surprised by his goal against Ajax on Tuesday night, Moyes will undoubtedly be aware of his abilities.

In all competitions, the youthful talent has five goals and five assists. He particularly shone during West Ham’s EFL Trophy run, which ended in their elimination by Wycombe Wanderers in the round of 16.
Moyes needs to take a chance on Orford, even at the young age of 18, particularly if Phillips keeps making mistakes while on loan from Manchester City.
