Sheffield Wednesday Considers Purchasing Former Aston Villa Striker

According to Alan Nixon, Sheffield Wednesday is keeping an eye on Scott Hogan of Birmingham City in anticipation of a possible January transfer window move.

Danny Rohl, the Owls’ manager who took over for Xisco Munoz in October of this year, will probably be looking to bolster his team in January in an effort to maintain their recent run of success.

The Yorkshire team has struggled this season in many parts of the pitch, but the former Bayern Munich assistant will surely be concerned about their goal drought since they have only scored 13 goals in the league, which is the fewest goals in the Championship.

According to Nixon’s Patreon, “Scott Hogan of Birmingham City is on Sheffield Wednesday’s shortlist for a new goalscorer.”

He continued, saying, “The Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri is willing to fund a major salary, and the Blues may let Hogan go before the end of his contract to get his wages off the payroll.”

With 249 appearances in the division alone and 67 goals, Hogan is a seasoned Championship player. But so far this season, the former Brentford and Aston Villa player has failed to live up to his prior performances, just managing one league goal for Birmingham from his nine starts.

Even though the Wednesday manager stated to The Sheffield Star earlier this week that he would rather buy and develop younger players, the Owls’ struggle to remain in the second division until 2024 and beyond may depend heavily on players with Hogan’s expertise. However, a move might not be as simple as they would have hoped, since Birmingham is a possible opponent for relegation given their present record.

After defeating Stoke City over the weekend, Sheffield Wednesday moved up to the top of the Championship standings. This week, they will visit Carrow Road to play Norwich City in an attempt to make it four games without a loss.

Author’s Perspective:

In the next window, the recently promoted Championship team will undoubtedly need to bolster their offensive line. Regardless of the division, experience may often be worth a team’s weight in gold when they are fighting for relegation, even though Rohl wants young players that he can develop.

Hogan hasn’t been able to live up to his goalscoring reputation under Wayne Rooney’s leadership, so if the Owls can persuade him to join and the Blues agree to let him leave before the end of his contract, this may be a transfer that works for everyone.
